We were 4 of Kalistick to participate in Mix-IT (a French conference about Java & Agile), we all agree it was a great event. Excellent organization, great content and good spirit among the participants. Impressive for a first, and congratulation to CARA and Lyon JUG teams!
We had great feedback on our talk about development on Cloud. If you missed it, we have published our slides and a detailed post on this subject.
Java master of the world
This is not the first Java conference where we note some arrogant comments about C#/.NET. Using both languages (*), we find this quite irritating.
It could be fun if their authors did not take it seriously, but it seems they often did. Javaists suffers from a superiority complex because it has long been at the forefront of development. But they should understand that in 2011 Java is to object-oriented languages what IE6 is for web browsers ! 7 years that the language has not changed!
OK ecosystem is alive, with many languages based on the JVM and still plenty of frameworks, but Java language is a dwarf beside C# while he behaves as a giant . It does not see higher than its competitor’s feet and remains stuck to the early versions of .NET and C# (which were actually not very bright for a Java Jedi).
But things are changing, and C# has for a long time most of the features desperately expected by Javaist, which will only come (partly) in Java 7. .NET community also changed and the Microsoft monopoly on this technology is not as pronounced as before, wake up!
But all this is a good teaser for a series of posts on this blog already planned and comparing these two languages, stay tuned!
(*) Our platform is based on Java at 80%. But our C# analysis system is itself based on C# (with Visual Studio and MSBuild plugins).
